Personality Health Challenges

Predisposition for each DISC type

Your behavioural style is linked directly to your physical well-being . While short-term changes in behaviour are manageable, sustaining a behaviour that does not align with your natural personality (your internal profile) can lead to significant stress .

If you behave in ways that do not suit your internal profile pattern for a long time, you reduce your immune function and potentially become sick .

The table below analyses the four DISC characteristics and the specific health challenges associated with them when an individual is under pressure or behaving against their natural type.

DISC Type Behavioural Drivers & Stressors

Common Health Challenges

Root Cause of Stress Direct (D)

(Dominance)Style: Fast-paced and results-oriented.

Stress Trigger: Lack of control or challenge.• Cardiovascular: High blood pressure and general cardiovascular problems .

Digestive: Indigestion and colitis .

Physical: Sports injuries .

Mental: Burnout .Trying to improve everything to their way.

The 'D' type often pushes themselves relentlessly to control outcomes, leading to physical burnout and stress-related heart or gut issues .

Inspiring (I) Type

(Influence)Style: Fast-paced and people-oriented.

Stress Trigger: Loss of social approval or confinement.• Energy: Fatigue and adrenal conditions .

Substance: Over-indulgence in drink or drugs .

Mental: Depression and stress (especially if confined) .

Vascular: High blood pressure .Doing too much.

The 'I' type expends massive energy to stay enthusiastic and social. This constant "on" mode can crash into adrenal fatigue or reliance on stimulants .

Supportive (S) Type

(Steadiness)Style: Slower-paced and people-oriented.

Stress Trigger: Instability and conflict.• Gastrointestinal: Ulcers, IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), and gastric troubles .

Sleep: Insomnia and fatigue .Worrying.

The 'S' type tends to internalise anxiety to maintain harmony. This internalised worry often manifests in the gut (IBS/ulcers) and disrupts sleep patterns .

Conscientious (C)

(Compliance)Style: Slower-paced and task-oriented.

Stress Trigger: Criticism and lack of precision.• Neurological: Migraines and anxiety .

Inflammatory: Skin conditions and arthritis .

Digestive: Constipation and gall bladder problems .

Mental: Depression .Holding onto thoughts and things.

The 'C' type strives for perfection and often cannot "let go" of errors or thoughts. This rigidity can lead to tension headaches (migraines) and inflammatory responses like arthritis .

Understanding the "Shift" and Immune Function

The Shift

The difference between your Private Style (Internal Profile) and your Public Behaviour (External Profile) is known as a "Shift" .

  • Measurement: The shift is calculated as the percentage difference between your internal and external behaviour patterns .
  • Impact: If this shift is significant and long-term, health challenges are likely to result .

Tension vs. Adaptability

The tension an individual is under is determined by their greatest shift percentage .

  • Adaptability: Every person has an adaptability score, which indicates how far they can comfortably modify their behaviour .
  • The Danger Zone: Trouble is potentially brewing when your Tension level exceeds your Adaptability factor . Ideally, tension should remain well below the adaptability score to maintain health .

Next Steps

If you notice these health symptoms or feel you are "pretending" to be someone else at work, you may be experiencing a high behavioural shift .
